A Happy Heart For Brent

As you all know, I am Brent’s mom, Janet. In the past couple of months we have found out some very shocking news with regards to Brent and his health and I wanted to do something for him and his wife in this time of need. The medical bills have started to come in, and on top of that just general living expenses are now going to be an issue, which is where I hope we all can help!
Here is a note that Brent shared on social media, explaining his current situation to friends and family.

So, I have honestly been dreading having to write something like this via Facebook, but social media is what it is, and it is the easiest platform to let people know what has been going on with me these last few months.
It started out between Thanksgiving and Christmas when I got really sick and just could not seem to get better. I became very bloated, could not breathe, and could not sleep. The wife and I ended up spending 7 hours in the ER on Christmas night, trying to get answers. After numerous tests, there were no answers. Multiple doctors all thought that I had a bad cold/virus or flu and gave me some meds and sent me on my way. I basically argued with my doctor, telling her I knew something was wrong and wanted to get my heart tested for heart failure. I had been reading up on it, and had many of the symptoms. Well, I went for an echocardiogram sometime in the middle of January and it was confirmed that I am currently in heart failure. Now, this is very serious, but heart failure is a terrible wording of it; it actually means I have a weak heart.
A normal person’s heart will pump between 50-75% of the blood in their heart out each beat, and mine is pumping 20%. With that, it constantly is working overtime to pump the blood needed throughout my body and this will cause issues down the road for me. I have a great team of doctors and I am on a list of meds that will not only regulate my heart, but it will hopefully restore some of my heart’s lost function. I will never be cured of this and it is considered a terminal illness, but many people have gone on to live decently long lives with this, and hopefully things will start to progress soon. If things fail to progress, next steps are a defibrillator, and there is a very good chance I will need a heart transplant down the road.
As I’m sure you can understand, this has been a rollercoaster of a couple months for my wife, myself, and those closest to us, so I am sorry for not really telling anyone else to date. The doctor has requested me to apply for disability and to take the foreseeable future off of work, and with that, we have a lot to figure out financially.

As a mother, the worst thing in the the world is to see your child sick or hurt, and not be able to do anything to try and help them feel better. I know that money is not something that will cure Brent from his heart issue, but it will at least allow him and his wife Brittany to sleep easy at night knowing their medical bills and other bills are taken care of!
