Brent S. in critical condition while saving son.
Hello. My name is Crystal Rothbart BSN, RN and I am a close friend and coworker to Stephanie Starkey who is married to the love of her life Brent Starkey. They share Stephanie's two sons who are nothing short of Brent's sons as well. They went away this week on vacation to Michigan with the excitement of seeing some family and spending quality time together that is much overdue. Stephanie is a Registered nurse who works tons of overtime to help care for our labor and delivering patients. While generally she would be celebrating the joys of a new life with new mothers and fathers, she is now faced with everyones worst nightmare. She is now sitting by her husbands bedside begging for prayers and healing for her love. This is Stephanie's posts directly from yesterday.
"Brent & Cadan were involved in a very bad ATV accident today while riding on sand dunes at a state park. We are in Michigan on vacation. Cadan has been discharged from the hospital, he is stable. Has lots of pain, bruising and swelling. All testing came back normal. No broken bones.
Please pray for my husband who is in surgery, the first of many. He has been in the trauma bay & ICU. He has a very long road ahead of him. He has broken both arms, legs and his pelvis. He also has a large laceration to his face that was causing him to swallow blood. He has been intubated to preserve his airway. As far as we have seen he does not have any internal bleeding and all major organs are good. Please pray for us. I love you all and cannot get to messages and phone calls but I will update you when I know more.
My husband is my hero. He jumped in front of my son to protect & save him. If you know him - you will understand that. It’s the type of man he is! He’s the best.

This trip was a bucket list for my sweet husband. We drove 14 hours to be here. He had so much fun Tuesday, him & Cadan decided to hit the dunes again on Wednesday. These guys love to ride!!
I am now at his bedside in ICU. He is stable, intubated and sedated. He had surgery to repair his pelvis and facial laceration. He will be back in the OR today (Thursday) if he can stay stable. He has had over 20 blood transfusions, 3 transfusions of platelets and is on vasopressors to keep his blood pressure up. He has lost a lot of blood & is hypotensive.
This has been a whirlwind. Cadan & Brent were hit by a driver who was described as driving very fast & reckless. There is an active police investigation & statements were obtained at the scene.
Please continue to pray so hard. I need my soulmate here with me. I need to hear his laugh again & see that handsome smile. He is truly my better half ❤️ I’m so appreciative of my sister Adrienne who is helping us & Gavin for flying in to be with the kids. Thank you to all of our friends & family who are helping us!! We love you!"

Please please please help me bless the Starkey family with some help to ease one of the many fears that Stephanie has at the moment of how is she going to be able to tackle the bills that will soon accumulate from this "vacation turned nightmare." Brent was airlifted to a level 2 trauma hospital where Stephanie is unable to stay at so she is staying at a nearby hotel. She doesn't have a vehicle to drive at the moment so at this time uber is her mode of transportation. Brent underwent surgery last night and has more surgeries to go thru today and in the future. Along side of the hospital stay I am certain there will be rehabilitation and physical therapy appointments. Any amount contributed would be greatly appreciated. Nurses often put their needs aside to care for others and at this moment as a fellow nurse I hope to help in some way possible. Stephanie would never ask for help but I know this will take a little bit of the worry off of her plate. Thank you so much for reading and your contribution. Many blessings and love.
