As many of you know, Brent was diagnosed with right renal cell carcinoma in 2013, and had his right kidney removed, with no chemotherapy or radiation needed at the time. We thought “we’re good”! WRONG!!!
We found out 3 months ago that IT’S BACK – he has recurrent/metastatic renal cell carcinoma that has invaded his lymphatic system this time. We have been told that there is no cure for this and that Brent will die WITH cancer; we’re just praying that he doesn’t die FROM cancer! This will be a lifelong condition and will be our ‘new normal’, although we pray that the medication will bring about remission. He began treatment 2 months ago with an oral chemotherapeutic/targeted medication.
Because his insurance year begins again on September 1st, deductibles will have to be met before co-pays go back down. We are going to have a lot more co-pays and other medical expenses, as well as time off from work so things are going to be tough for a while and the financial strain has begun. As Brent is a school district employee in Texas, y'all know the pay isn't great, and our insurance premiums are over $700 a month ;( It is SO hard to ask for help, especially for this loving, sweet, generous, and caring man who has devoted his entire life to helping others in his role as a school counselor. However, the time has come for us to ask so if you can find it in your heart to help, we ask for your prayers first and most importantly, as well as for financial support as we continue our fight. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts, and we will keep everyone posted as this journey unfolds! Again, please keep us in your prayers – I can’t imagine life on Earth for any of us without Brent in it!
