Being diagnosed as a small child at the age of 7 with Diabetes, I have been a positive voice and a campaigner for people with Diabetes. My advocacy and activism efforts drew much-needed conversations with many persons to self-improve and control the symptoms and effects of Diabetes and maintaining an active relationship with your medical team. I believe that Family and Friends support are crucial in managing Diabetes and any medical crises that arises and affects the body! Trials and tribulations with Diabetes will continue but having and possessing the mindset of never stopping and giving up! I will continue using my voice to advocate for persons I encounter locally or within my community who have been diagnosed with Diabetes and the effects of what Diabetes does to the body or any other medical conditions that affects the body and life’s purpose. Awareness and being well inform is critical at all levels in maintaining health and aspiring to meet individual goals in life's destiny!
Of course, I didn't think of the consequences of what had befallen on me! Rededicated my life to Christ, attended the Miami lighthouse for the blind to reclaim my life and my independence. The support of my family, and friends, I felt a love and overabundance of compassion seeing the condition I was now afflicted with. Graduated with a second degree in sound engineering and received specialized training on adaptive technology devices for the blind. I formerly worked at the Miami Lighthouse For The Blind since 2000, where I worked as an assistive technology specialist, the Job Readiness Instructor Specialist and a MIDI instructor until 2017. Working with specialize software and hardware, to access the computer and other peripherals to prepare visually impaired and Blind persons for life, post-secondary education and eventual employment. "Being able to see is a wonderful thing. The problem is that seeing distracts most people from understanding what they are really looking at. Becoming blind has increased my vision. I think that I see! things more clearly now that I have lost my sight. I have learned to see with my heart, discerning what is unknown by the physical eye and seeing the heart through an internal spiritual eye!!"
Having gone into renal failure last year, loss of employment, I need a double transplant of a Kidney and Pancreas. Now being on the Dialysis Machine, I am now on the active waiting list at The University Of Minnesota. Many persons do not make it on the Dialysis Machine; for many years. I can say that nothing stops me from living my life, as I am dealing and coping with my current Medical crises and Blindness challenges. Utilizing all electronic adaptive aids is crucial in living and experiencing all that life offers while being Blind with Diabetes. Still, there's no way of sugar-coating this. I need this transplant, it's obviously a very serious surgery, and while my health insurance will thankfully cover the transplant. There are aspects of care and recovery (including copays, mediation, transport, and much more) which are not covered by insurance. For the first year after a transplant, a patient remains at substantial risk for rejection, and there are many costs associated with monitoring and guarding against this, as well as with recuperation. After-care is crucial, and it's expensive. That's where each of you can help! My Transplant Team have advised that I should have a large contingency fund in place which can be applied towards the costs of the rejection drugs. The sums are enormous, so I'm setting up this fundraising campaign to have each person viewing my Go Fund Me Page for each of you to consider contributing. I was fortunate to have a mission in life, a renewed, rededicated and re-directed mindset where I have realized the potential of what I have experienced in my own life can and will make a difference in another person’s life. Which has moved me up within the list for being Transplanted. I do not know of the possible date; when the Transplant will happen? I am just preparing in the event of when I am called for surgery?
