Brendan's and Simon's Marathon

Donation protected
Earlier this year, Michael Geoghegan became very seriously ill with IPD (Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis) a disease for which there is only one solution which is a lung transplant. As a consequence, he was dependent on oxygen and his quality of life deteriorated rapidly. Eventually, following numerous consultations, Michael was placed on the lung transplant list.

In March of this year, Michael was transferred to the Lung and Heart Transplant Unit in the Mater Hospital where he was fortunate to receive a new fully functional and healthy lung. Under the excellent care of the Mater’s Heart and Lung transplant team, Michael’s condition has rapidly improved and he has made a full recovery.

Without the Mater’s Heart and Lung Transplant facility and the care and expertise of the specially trained transplant team staff, headed by Professor Egan, Michael's treatment and recovery simply would not have been possible. Michael's life and the lives all of his family and friends have been transformed for the better as a result.

As a token of our appreciation and in recognition of their incredible work, myself and Simon are participating in this year’s SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon in aid of the Mater Foundation on Sunday 28th October, with funds specifically going to the Heart and Lung Transplant unit.

Please support us by donating what you can to this very worthy cause.

Thank you
