My name is Michelle Stewart and I work at Andritz Inc. in Alpharetta, GA. My campaign is to assist Brenda Albert, a co-worker at Andritz, raise funds to assist her family in St. Croix, USVI.
St. Croix is in chaos right now with the food shortage and a shortage of essential items in stores because after Irma most items were shipped over to aide St. Thomas and St. John with recovery and stores on Str. Croix did not have a chance to replenish before Maria came.
According to the latest press conference from the Governor of the V.I., St. Croix will possibly be without electricity for six to eight months….and this isn’t unheard of as Hurricane Hugo in 1989 (the worst hurricane Brenda and her family experienced) left the Virgin Islands without electricity for six to seven months.
Some of Brenda's family in St. Croix have lost everything due to Hurrican Maria. Her parents are elderly and this time around she is not sure what’s going to happen if they are without electricity for this long.
Brenda will use the funds to purchase two generators (one for each household affected), flashlights, batteries, candles, tarps, non-perishable food, diapers, wipes, baby formula, and mosquito repellants.
Brenda plans to withdraw whatever funds have been collected by the end of this week in order to purchase the items above and ship them (via a designated shipper in Lithonia, GA) to her family this weekend. It will take two weeks for these items to arrive in St. Croix.
