College Fund for A Stage Manager

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Brianna Reedy. I am a current freshman at University of the Arts studying stage management. I am reaching out in search of any foundations, organizations or philanthropists who may be interested in supporting a dedicated young Stage Manager. I am in need of financial assistance to attend my second semester here. I need to raise $10,000.00 by March 31st at the latest.

This spring, I hope to continue to attend the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and study as a Directing, Playwriting, and Production major with a concentration in Stage Management. I hope to learn more about stage management and to gain experience and further knowledge of the professional world of theater that will help me towards the goal of having a career in professional theatrical stage management.

I am very passionate about theater, and in order to continue to work in the field that I love so much, I need to go to college. I still want to learn more and I want to further my education. I have already learned so much in my first semester, and I can only imagine how much more I will have the opportunity to learn in the next three and a half years. With some financial help, I can fulfill my dreams. If I go to college, I will be able to make a living with my profession, a rare reality for many students in today's world. I want to be able to get a good education that will not only help insure that I will be able to provide for my family and myself, but also make sure that I can give back to the communities and organizations that have helped me get to where I am now, and where I hope to be in the future.

I have learned so much during this first semester and I want more than anything to continue my education. Unfortunately, the financial package presented to me by the university was less than what was previously discussed and anticipated. Although I have received a few scholarships, I still have a substantial gap to fill in order for me to be able to continue attending the University of the Arts. I'm hoping to find a foundation, or an organization, or maybe even a philanthropist who would like to support the arts and/or theater by supporting the education of an upcoming dedicated and passionate Stage Manager, who wants to contribute as much as she can to the world of theater.

I started stage managing at the age of fourteen. I was the Assistant Stage Manager for Staples Players of Staples High School from Fall of 2009 - Spring of 2011 and the Stage Manager for Staples Players of Staples High School from Summer of 2011 - Spring of 2013. In total, I have worked on twenty-four productions for Staples Players over the past four years. Over the course of those four years, I have stage managed fourteen shows, and assistant stage managed six production for Staples Players. During both the shows that I have and have not stage managed for, I wore many hats, including scenic artist, carpenter, technical director, and more. My proudest show that I have worked on with Staples Players was A Chorus Line. Stage managing this production was a great feat for me. Our run of the show went so well that the company was invited to perform at the Hudson Theater in New York City for a tribute to Marvin Hamlisch. Key members of the technical crew, including myself, were invited to come and watch the process of teching the review, which was a huge honor.

Outside of Staples Players, I have interned for the Northeast Children's Theater Company, as well as worked on six other productions. Five of these were for philanthropic organizations, and one for the New York City Fringe Festival. The show that I was asked to stage manage for the NYCFringe was a play called Sweet Tooth, directed by Gina Rattan (Resident Director of Billy Elliot on Broadway, Associate Director of Cinderella on Broadway).. Gina had heard of my commitment and skill and asked me if I would join her production team. The experience was a wonderful taste of what theater is like outside of school.

In my first semester at the University of the Arts, I was Wardrobe Supervisor for a production of Man of Mode, the Assistant Stage Manager for a production called I Am Changing, and was the Stage Manager for a workshop of a new play, Kaleidoscope. Rehearsals for Kaleidoscope will continue during this coming Spring semester, and then in May the show will be shown around the Philadelphia area. Being recognized and asked to be a part of these productions my freshman year of college was more than I could have imagined.
I have also won two awards for theater, the Drew Lubarsky Award (won in 2011) and the Joe Zeighan award (won in 2013). Both are awards from my hometown. They both are for commitment and dedication to Staples Players, both the organization and the technical side.

Now that you know a bit about my past experience in technical theater, I would also like to you to know a bit about myself as a person. I am very dedicated to the world of theater and spreading my love for it to as many people as possible. I want to help spread the magic of theater, and hope that other people can be inspired by the business that I find so captivating. When the lights go down in the theater, right before the show is about to start, you know that you are about to be transported into another world where you can forget all of your worries for two and a half hours, and enjoy getting caught up in an extravagant musical or a shakespearean classic. I want all the stressed and busy people in this world to be able to stop for a moment and breathe and relax and smile, allowing them to experience the magical pastime that has captivated people all over the world for centuries.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this. I appreciate it more than I can tell you. If you would like to help me pursue my education or have any recommendations to any foundations, organizations or individuals, please feel free to contact me. If you yourself would like to donate, please feel free to on this page. Any amount is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for helping make it possible to reach my goal and pursue my dream!

Warmest regards,
Brianna Reedy
