Breckenridge Dog Park NOW OPEN!
The Breckenridge Active Living Committee is enthusiastically working on establishing/creating a DOG PARK in Breckenridge, Minnesota. This new park will offer an opportunity for your pet to interact with other dogs in a safe and controlled environment. There are many proven health benefits for a dog park in a community for both dogs and their owners. A dog park is a great way to socialize and meet your neighbors. The more that dogs are able to interact with other humans and dogs, the less likely they are to bark and become aggressive. Dogs need physical exercise just as much as humans, they love to run free. Without this dog park, they must be on a leash when outside of a closed private yard. Dogs and humans have emotional needs that need to be met throughout the year, especially in the winter. With the wide array of weather we experience in this area, the park will give dogs an opportunity to enjoy it year round due to the park being maintained throughout the year.
This park will be located along Beede Avenue, east of Veterans Memorial Park, south of Breckenridge Family Community Center and west of Twin Town Skate Park. To construct this park, it will need fencing, doggy waste stations, benches and/or picnic tables, garbage containers, signage, etc. There will be a 6-foot fence with double gates which will include a small and large dog area. The goal amount for this project was $30,000. However, now with the increased cost of building material the new goal is $45,000. There are national and local grants that the City of Breckenridge will apply for, but this project will not be possible without donations. Together we can help families in our community by providing a safe environment for dogs to play without the risk of running away, being hit by cars, or disturbing the general public.
