Breathing Freely

Last spring my sister Terryl Lee-Quines’s lung disease and general health worsened alarmingly, resulting in emergency room visits, hospitalizations, and placement in a skilled nursing facility where she has gradually gained some weight and strength. Now she is in a long-term care program in the same facility.

During this period Terry’s requirement for supplemental oxygen increased steadily and now is stable at 4.0 liters per minute. At that rate of oxygen consumption, her oxygen-storage tanks run out of oxygen very quickly. The tanks also are prone to malfunction and can only be refilled by a nursing assistant.

An oxygen-generating system would make all the difference in Terry’s quality of life. The Inogen G3 system we want to purchase for her is lightweight, carried in a shoulder purse, and capable of providing her with many hours of oxygen, permitting her far greater degrees of freedom of movement, including extended excursions with friends and the chance to volunteer again in her world peace organization.

Terry feels awkward asking for help to buy this medical equipment. Medicaid requires her to contribute almost all of her sole source of income, her Social Security check, to help pay for her care.  She would appreciate any help you can provide, including good thoughts and prayers sent her way.
