Let's breathe new life into Michelle Wright who is battling COPD, a chronic lung condition that can only be cured with a new set of lungs. We are raising funds through gofundme.com as well as several other fundraisers which are in the works. Raising this money is the first step for Duke Pulmonary Transplant Clinic to even consider putting Michelle on the transplant list. Let's help out an OBX'er and show her that we will fight for her life and her son Sawyer to be able to have a healthy mom. Any donation isn't too small, $1, $10, $50, $100. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive lung disease that over time makes it hard to breathe.
Key Points
COPD is chronic. In other words, you live with it every day.
It can cause serious long-term disability and early death.
There is no cure for COPD.
COPD is sometimes referred to as chronic bronchitis or emphysema.
With COPD, the airways in your lungs become inflamed and thicken, and the tissue where oxygen is exchanged is destroyed. The flow of air in and out of your lungs decreases. When that happens, less oxygen gets into your body tissues, and it becomes harder to get rid of the waste gas carbon dioxide. As the disease gets worse, shortness of breath makes it harder to remain active.
