Update***
Thank you for your support to this point! In order to connect with additional supports and services that may help Amy post-transplant, she and her family are partnering with the Children's Organ Transplant Association. COTA is a non-profit dedicated to raising funds in honor of patients like Amy to assist with transplant-related expenses.

COTA’s services are free, so 100% of every donation made in Amy’s honor will assist with transplant-related expenses, and funds are available for her lifetime! While we are closing this gofundme page to keep all donations on one site, you can continue to follow Amy’s journey and contribute at https://cota.org/campaigns/COTAforTeamAmyS

At 32-years-old, Amy is in need of a lung transplant. Our goal is to help with medical and living costs during this time. It’s not everyday a life will touch you, or someone you love,  like Amy’s light will.  She is motivated to help others in so many ways, always sacrificing herself to make her unique imprint on this world.
Amy graduated high school with high honors in 2004, then attended Loyola University in Maryland, earning a dual degree in Psychology and Writing in 2008.  In 2010 she began studying for an advanced degree at the University of Massachusetts and earned a Masters in Counseling in 2012. Her entire career Amy has worked to support children and adolescents in the community.  This started with adoptive and foster children, and currently with young adults with major mental illness.  Her goals have been to ensure children have a future and are safe.  She is an extremely intelligent and caring person, tirelessly working to help others. Now she requires our help.
Those not close to Amy may not be familiar with her daily battles of the unplanned symptoms of Cystic Fibrosis. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that causes progressive lung damage, persistent infections and eventually respiratory failure. There is no cure for Cystic Fibrosis, but a lung transplant can extend a patient's life and improve their health once their lungs become too damaged to respond to available medical treatments.  Her lung/oxygen capacity is currently between 32%-40%.  Due to the nature of CF, it will continue to decline.
The transplant process is invasive, physically demanding, and requires a minimum of six-months recovery time. Should she survive the surgery, Amy’s entire life will change:  she will have to begin taking heavy doses of immunosuppressants, as well as a multitude of other medications for the rest of her life.
During that projected minimum of six-months recovery time Amy will not be able to work, and in addition to her normal living expenses will have significant medical costs.  She will need financial support to cover the cost of rent, utilities, food, travel, and other expenses related to her transplant. These expenses would be significant without the burden of major illness, but as a single woman supporting herself, these financial challenges fall well beyond her present income.
Absolutely all donations will go towards Amy’s medical and living expenses. Please consider how you can help, and share our mission with others. Through your love and support we can all help Amy breathe just a little bit easier.
