"Breath" music video

I'm Luna Bec, I'm a singer- songwriter and activist and have created this new song called "Breath." I'm raising funds to make a music video of a dance performance by ex National Ballet dancer Shevelle Dynott. By supporting this project you will be benefiting the arts directly in the form of individual artists and technical crew, as well as the theatre venue where we will film.
What is the song about?
"Breath" is a song that arose during the Coronavirus lockdown of 2020, it explores what it means to be a human, an artist, an activist, in the face of widespread violence and oppression. It asks the question, how do I use my breath in a way that is supporting others to speak, and not upholding a system that silences them?
What is the video about?
The arts have been severely threatened by Covid. And yet never has our world needed creative expression so much to survive and bring about the systemic change that is necessary. Dance is a medium that uses the breath in a way that is visceral and powerful. It celebrates the power of the human body in all its strength and vulnerability.
Why now?
2020 united many people around the world in an unprecedented moment where we were forced to stop what we were doing. In that gap a spotlight could be shone on things that have been going on for years - racism, police violence, planetary destruction, domestic abuse - but suddenly we were all watching.
Why theatre?
Theatre has always been the ground of communal awakening and catharsis. Filming in an empty theatre emphasises the poignancy of the situation our arts industry is in at present. Some of you will also have seen the government's recent campaign suggesting that dancers might need to retrain. Let's prove them wrong!
Shevelle Dynott
Shevelle is a brilliant dancer, he was the first black child to attend the Royal Ballet School, and one of the first children to complete the 'Chance to Dance' training and be accepted on the Royal Ballet School's Junior Associates programme. He has recently been featured in the series "Black is the New Black" at the National Portrait Gallery, a series highlighting the achievements of influential black Britons.

In a time where so many of us struggling, this could be an inspiring and uplifting way to come together across the different disciplines of theatre, dance and music, to say: this matters. Art is the breath of life in our society. Art is a powerful way to raise social consciousness and bring beauty into our lives.
