Breastfeeding Support For ALL

Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

Wow, what a year it has been! I don’t think I need to recount the challenges, of which we are all so painfully aware. But I’ve been all the more grateful to all of you this past year, every time I can tell a desperate new mother or father that breastfeeding help is at hand, with no caveats about finances.

This year has highlighted the terrible downstream effects of health care disparities. Lack of adequate access to breastfeeding support is a foundational disparity: Lower breastfeeding rates lead to higher rates of chronic illness such as asthma, diabetes, and obesity, and higher rates of infectious diseases.

Breastfeeding is now widely recognized as the biological norm. Every family should have the support needed to provide this foundational beginning and to navigate other feeding choices, and mitigate risks, should challenges arise around breastfeeding. Responsive early infant feeding is the foundation of a lifetime of resilient health and emotional connection.

Amid the suffering of this difficult year, so unequally borne by some groups (though ultimately touching all), certain rhythms of life have continued unabated. Babies continue to be born, and many new parents still struggle to feed their babies after being rushed out of hospitals as quickly as possible, often with little or no access to lactation support. This year, many return to homes without even the social support of visiting friends and family. That’s where You come in. Thanks to your generosity, our Financial Assistance Fund can continue to provide access to breastfeeding support to families in their homes in our community, regardless of ability to pay!

Can you make a Donation to help us to reach our goal so we can enter the coming year still prepared to say "YES!" to every family that contacts us for breastfeeding support? Won't you help us to continue, one baby at a time, to build a brighter future, together? Donations in ANY amount are helpful and appreciated!

Warmly, With Gratitude,

Sarah

PS Thank You for continuing to stick up for babies and families in these perilous times!! I am ever more grateful for your support as I have begun to hear from families that have contracted Covid while their babies have dodged it or been able to cope so much better due to the breastfeeding that Your support helped make possible!
