Breanna's Fire Recovery

On October 9th 2017 in the middle of the night, my daughter, Breanna DeLong, lost her home to the Santa Rosa CA firestorm. She had just barely enough time to grab her pets, dog food and her tip book, jump in her car to escape the flames that came roaring down the hill. Everything else she owns is gone.
Breanna is planning on leaving the area to relocate in Atlanta, Georgia at the end of the month to stay with her Aunt. She hopes to be able to find her own housing and restart her life in Atlanta with the many opportunities that her Aunt Rachel is helping her find. Any donation, no matter how small, will help her travel safely across the county and recover from losing everything in the fire. Thank you for contributing.
New Start for Breanna-

When I was in 4th grade, I was asked a hypothetical question “if there was a fire at your home and you only had time to grab one item, what would it be?”
I answered my blankie that I had had as a child and my mom answered her family photos. Neither of us would ever think twice about our answers. My sister, Breanna DeLong was not present to answer this question. However, on October 9th, 2017, we all found out that Breanna’s answer would be “Dog food and her tip book.”
On October 8th, 2017, uncontained wildfires erupted through Sonoma County, California. The fires were paired with extremely high winds, causing them to spread at an alarming rate through the dry grasslands that surround the area. The speed at which the fires traveled was staggering, and soon firemen around the district realized that these fires were temporarily uncontrollable and heading towards residential neighborhoods.
Meanwhile, Breanna was getting home from work around Midnight. She smelled barbeque, and wondered why the neighbors were grilling so late at night, but paid it no mind. By 1:00, she noticed a glow on the horizon. Half an hour later, the glow was extremely bright, and she could hear sirens traveling out towards that area. Soon she saw flames lapping over the hillside behind her house, and started to be concerned. By 1:30am, she knew she had to get out of there. There was no evacuation warning, but the flames were speeding down the hillside towards her neighborhood. She grabbed her animals, a bag of dog food, and her tip book from work, banged on some neighbors doors to wake them up, jumped in her car and drove away from her home.
Where she lived in Santa Rosa, California, there is only one street out. Traffic was bumper to bumper as people fled their homes. Within 15 minutes of making the decision to evacuate, the fires engulfed her neighborhood. As she sat in traffic, flame carried by the heavy winds jumped across the road she was on to the neighborhood on the other side. Trucks packed with belongings caught fire as Breanna inched along in the traffic. Firemen stopped at intersections to hose off these moving bonfires. She made it safely to a friends house, and has been staying with various friends since the fires.
The fires left nothing untouched. Upon returning to her home, she found dust. A bag of dogfood and her tipbook were all she had left of her life. The few things that had been left to her when her father died were gone. Her life was diminished to a pile of ash, and all the memories, happy and sad, blowing away with the wind.
Breanna is trying to relocate, to start anew. Life in California has been trying, heartbreaking and unforgiving. She has made the decision to start her new life in Atlanta, Georgia where her Aunt lives and closer to me, her older sister, who currently lives in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Although she has been receiving assistance from local support groups, she has no home in California to accept any donations. She is planning on staying with her Aunt in her apartment until she can get back on her feet.
With these funds, we are hoping to help her start fresh in a new city. We are looking to raise $3,500 to help her get a new apartment in Atlanta, which would pay for a deposit and 1st month's rent, and help her to furnish her new apartment as she will be moving there with nothing.
Breanna is an extremely hard working young woman, who will be searching for a job waitressing in Atlanta, Georgia, and also hopes to open her own pet sitting business called Bre’s Pawsititve Pet Care once she gets settled. Any donation, no matter how small, will help her start again in a new city.
Breanna has been through circumstances that we can only imagine. She deserves to be happy. She deserves a new start. Thank you so much for contributing to her new life.
