Breaking Cycle of Poverty

Help us give Mahendra Phagwah, a poor young man on a mission to improve the welfare of his family as he continues to fight poverty through education.

Mahendra Phagwah is born to parents with hearing impaired and mute. Has suffered for the most part of his life but vows to rise above his circumstances and make a name for himself, while supporting his parents and sister who is 16 years old.

Mahendra Phagwah was one of the top students at his primary school but was forced to drop out of high school due to bullying but more so, poverty.
Mahendra Phagwah recounts “Many nights I went to bed late and had little or nothing to go to school with the next day. My friends were well-off and had the best bag and books. I had to use whatever little I had, and because I was seen as different from the others, I was bullied in one way or the other. I remember clearly days of riding, and when I reached to school, I would smell because I didn’t have the best deodorant and some of my friends would make their faces, and I felt conscious of those around me. Many had the best lunch, and I had bare rice and curry in my bowl. I would see classmate well-off with money to spend, and I would cry silently inside”.

Recently, the young man sat his C.X.C exam, thanks to the MMP Foundation and received passes in all 13 subjects.

He is now looking to support his education, provide for his family and to ensure his sister does not suffer as he did on his early journey to receive an education. The young man has put his studies as a medical doctor on hold since he now has to provide for his family as they depend on him for a daily bread.

With this GoFundMe, Mahendra will use funds to support his quest in pursuing his education such as application fees, SAT/ACT/TOEFL test, fund his studies at NATI and other courses, etc. And aid as a backup when he leaves for studies in terms of family emergency, monthly stipend, etc. The fund will also support both his sister’s education in her quest to complete CXC and improve their family foundation as they work hard to fight poverty through education.

Mahendra emphasizes "Before I leave to go and further my studies, I want to improve my family foundation so that I can sleep at night in another country knowing that my family has bread to eat and that they are happy”.
