Hi everyone!
My name is Charlie Liao, and I am representing BreakFree as our Internal Director. To keep things short (and for more details, please read below), BreakFree is a collegiate hip hop dance team at Cornell with the mission "Dance to Inspire." We occasionally compete to grow as dancers (and to represent Cornell), but need funding to actually support our competition dreams! This fundraiser's objectives are simple: to get us transportation, housing, and food for the Reign or Shine XI competition in New Jersey on November 17th and 18th. We would be eternally grateful for any contributions to this experience, and definitely dedicate any awards we win to everyone that donates to this campaign <3.
What is our team about?
BreakFree is a hip hop dance team that was founded by Laura Romeo (Class of ’09) at Cornell University. Our mission is “Dance to Inspire.” We aim to bring the community together by dancing at shows, offering free dance classes to the collegiate community, and striving to spread positive vibes all around with our team's other activities (e.g. hosting famous guest choreographers, coming up with fun marketing campaigns, etc).
As an example, here's a dance set from one of our annual shows:
As you can see, we're just a group of fun-loving (and studious!) college kids looking to express ourselves and entertain others through the medium of dance.
BreakFree has competed in multiple competitions in the past few years. This year, we have been practicing and preparing for months to participate in Reign or Shine XI , a competition taking place in the New Jersey Institute of Technology on November 17th and 18th. We are humbly asking for your help in getting us there to showcase our hard work and represent the Cornell community in the best way we can.
What kind of support do we need?
We would like to ask for your help in alleviating these financial demands - many of us are students - to make sure each of us can be inspired by the experience without significant financial obstacles.
We aren't looking for a specific minimum donation; anything you can help us out with would be awesome!
More specifically, your funding would be used for the following items:
(1) Transportation (car rentals, gas, bus tickets)
(2) AirBnb housing (to house our team of 16+ people)
(3) Food (to feed us and keep us energized for the competition)
BreakFree would like to send our love and gratitude for your generosity and support. We will always work to serve the dance community and to positively impact on everyone around us. Thank you!
