Break the Chains: Justice Looks Like Love March

Donation protected

Love recognizes no barriers.

It jumps hurdles, leaps fences,

penetrates walls to arrive at its

destination full of hope.

Maya Angelou

On Juneteenth (June 19th, 2021) please join us, for a march for Justice, Solidarity and Love! This is a protest march to show that people of all races and ethnicities can unite to raise up humanity and overthrow white supremacy— together.

We march for JUSTICE because the guilty verdict in the trial of George Floyd’s murderer shouldn’t have been such a surprise and relief. We march for SOLIDARITY because we are all connected. We march for LOVE because it’s the strongest weapon of all. It’s what justice looks like in public. Like respect. Like fairness. Like freedom.

We chose Juneteenth, because it’s a day of celebration marking the end of slavery— a day when we should focus on love and hope—even if daily acts of racist oppression show us how far we are from real Emancipation. But by marching together on Juneteenth in a spirit of love, we’re showing that we’re committed to continuing the work of Martin, Malcolm, Rosa and hundreds of others. We march together because the love is healing.

We will be gathering at Brooklyn Bridge Park (Carousel) at 1pm, stepping off at 1:30pm to walk across the bridge. We will chant and we will dance to the 'love' playlist being created. In Manhattan, we’ll stop by the African Burial Ground Monument for a moment of silence, then proceed to City Hall where we’ll have an opportunity to share some closing words of reflection and love.

Since last year’s march, many of us have been vaccinated—which is great—but not everyone, so this is a masked and social distancing march. Taking these measures shows our love for each other. We are also committed to nonviolence and sharing a peace/love vibe, but since we can’t control everything, we will have trained marshals on hand who cut their teeth in groups like the Lesbian Avengers and ACT-UP.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN MARSHALLING PLEASE GO TO THE WEBSITE: Breakthechainswithlove.com and complete the google form.

As always, random acts of kindness are encouraged! Perhaps bring an extra bottle of water for someone else! Or a spare mask. Along with chants we will have a speaker and a love song play list. Let us show, by our shear numbers, how committed we are to JUSTICE, SOLIDARITY, and LOVE.

See you there!

The funds raised will go toward the cost of the March and any monies collected in excess will be contributed to BIPOC orgs or groups working toward social justice!
