Hello! We are raising money to fund a new community center for the LGBTQ+ population of Montgomery. Montgomery Pride United and Free2Be have partnered together to open up the Bayard Rustin Community Center, which provides services such as counseling services, support groups, social hangouts, and emergency transitional housing funds to the Montgomery community.
We opened up the center just a year ago, and it has already been too small: even our regular meetings are so crowded some people have to sit on the floor! Right now, we are looking to rent or buy a place in Montgomery that will help us acheive our goals of:
-Providing shower/privacy rooms (and eventually short term housing) for people who are homeless in the river region
-Opening up a full time thrift store where 100 percent of the proceeds will go to our programming and where those who need to can shop for clothes free of charge
-Opening up a small food bank/meal program to help folks get solid, hot meals
-Expanding on our programs and holding bigger and larger community events (such as proms, fundraisers, workshops, and more)
-Having a larger and more functional meeting space so that we can invite even more people to our biweekly meetings
-Providing a great community space where all feel comfortable, safe, welcome, and included!
Montgomery Pride United is a small group comprised of volunteers who work to support the Bayard Rustin Community Center and put on our annual Pride festival (this year will be our third.) Please consider donating and help us make a great home for our LBGTQ+ community!
