I've been a climate mobilizer for the past 5 years, and I’m about to realize one of my biggest dreams!

I'm Yusuke Sakai and my passion is to find ways and bridges where people can trust each-other, collaborate with each-other and find synergies to accelerate the climate just transition and sustainable transformation!

My journey started back in 2020 as a sustainable cities researcher in the university in Brazil, and where I created a small sustainability student group that soon turned into a proud youth-led organization called JDS — Juventudes para o Desenvolvimento Sustentável.

Together with my team of 13 volunteers in Brazil, and even far from my country since 2021 when I got the opportunity to study abroad in Portugal where I’m currently based, I continued my actions rooted in Brazil. We, the JDS team organized and delivered 3 municipal level conferences engaging 800 participants in 3 years, and bringing youth and public authorities together shaping Municipal Climate Action Plan; organized two national level conference of youth on climate change (LCOY 2022 and 2023) creating bottom-up voice collection strategy; and today we are co-hosting the Global Youth Conference on Climate Change – the COY-20 – alongside the Youth Group of UNFCCC, that will take place in Belem in November, 3 days before COP-30!

Why Am I Doing This?

And that’s how I’m about to make one of my big dreams come true. I’ll return to Brazil — first time since I moved abroad — not only to travel to hug my beloved family, friends and life coaches, but mainly to finally see the results of 4 years of dedication to our climate mission in Brazil. The journey plan consist in:

Deliver COY-20 in Belém;

Advocate at COP (UN conference on climate change) for the first time;

Unite with my JDS team for the first time and deliver a summit in Campinas;

Meet youth, public authorities, stakeholders in Campinas to plan the JDS scaling up of our action till 2030.

Compile and share all 4 years of story into videos to deliver you and all people, hoping that our story could spark any inspiration and light to bring your action ideas into reality too!

Contribute to this mission!

To make this mission possible, as well as to also support my team-members also involved in this story, Camila (Logistic co-lead for COY-20 and JDS team), Eduardo (JDS team), Debora (Partnership co-Lead for COY-20 and JDS member) and me (Program co-lead for COY-20 and JDS co-founder), we are raising €3.300 to cover our flights, transport, and essentials! And any excess will be donated to the JDS initiative.

Milestones:

Each €300 reach, I’ll release a very hand made whole hearted video through @ysk_howslifeonearth and @jds_campinas accounts, and with this crowd-funding success we’ll be sharing all learnings and moments from every step of this journey too!

So onboard on this mission with us by donating what you can to help me carry this dream and mission for our planet and people!

Entregar o COY-20 em Belém;

Conduzir advocacy na COP (conferência da ONU sobre mudanças climáticas) pela primeira vez;

Me reunir com minha equipe da JDS pela primeira vez e realizar um evento em Campinas;
