Brandon's Track and Field Pursuit

How it all started: I began throwing shot put in grade 7 and, in the summer of grade 9, I was introduced to throwing discus, I have been competing in both, and loved both events ever since. In those years I had some success winning city championships and smaller city meets but deep down I knew I was capable of much more. At the start of grade 10 I decided to take my training to the next level and join the Ottawa Lions Track and Field club.  My first season with the Ottawa Lions was an amazing success and helped me to realize that my goals can become a reality.  In just one season I was a 5 time provincial medallist. This was, and still is a major commitment my family and I have made, my parents spend 10 hours a week just driving me to and from practice. Since I have joined the Lions I have not looked back, I have realized that my destiny lies within this sport. My sights are set on the ultimate goal of becoming an Olympian. Along the way there are going to be many challenges, a major one being finances for training, travel, accommodations, treatment, training facilities, club fees and professional coaching. The amount I train and time I spend at school makes it almost impossible to work. I have started this “go fund me” account to help me raise money to allow me to continue training full time and continue competing full time. I work hard all summer, while training and competing upwards of 6 times per week, trying to save as much money as I can to support my dream of representing Canada. From September until the end of June, I am in school and still training at least 4 days a week.  I would like to be able to use my abilities in track and field to aid in my goal of getting an education in the process.  My focus then has to be switched from earning an income to keeping my grades as high as I can, and throwing as far as I can. I am very excited for this year, there are some amazing opportunities for me. I will be competing all over the province of Ontario, traveling to the United States to attend my club training camp to better prepare for my season, travelling across the country to Manitoba to compete for the national title, and if all goes as planned I will be wearing the Canadian colours this August in Costa Rica. If I am at my best in Costa Rica and I perform well, I may have an opportunity to represent Canada a second time in one season at the Youth Olympics, which will be hosted in Argentina. My goal amount is to raise 5,000 dollars.
