Brandon's Recovery

Donation protected
On February 15, 2018 K9 Handler Brandon Van Ausdal and his partner, K9 Mojo, were responding to a burglary in progress call with all emergency lights and sirens activated when a drunk driver pulled out in front of their vehicle, causing a devastating collision. The driver of the other vehicle was subsequently charged with felony DUI.

Although rushed to the emergency veterinary clinic, K9 Mojo’s injuries were too great for him to overcome. He passed away shortly after arriving to the vet.

Private First Class Van Ausdal was transported to MUSC with severe but non-life threatening injuries. He is doing well, but has a long road of recovery ahead of him.

PFC Van Ausdal has worked for North Charleston Police Department since 2011. K9 Mojo served the North Charleston Police Department honorably for 5 years.

Mojo wasn’t just a K9, he was a staple throughout the community. He was also a valued member of the Van Ausdal family. His Handler, his mom, and his dog brother are all bereft at his senseless loss.

Brandon is a great neighbor, fellow officer, and most importantly a close friend to all who know him. He values his family, friends, and the community he serves, and any donation to this fund will be greatly appreciated.

All contributions will go directly to helping Brandon’s family get back on their feet after such a heartbreaking loss and will help offset the cost of his recovery.

Finally, even if you are unable to make a contribution, you can help by stopping anyone you believe to be intoxicated from getting behind the wheel.
