From a very early time in our lives and in our relationship as a couple, God has placed adoption on our hearts. We both knew going into marriage that one day we wanted to grow a family through adoption. In the fall of 2012 after much research and prayer, we began the long and arduous application process to adopt a child from Ethiopia. Our hearts were broken about the nearly 5 million children who are orphaned in that country, and we felt we were being called to step out in faith and take care of one of these precious children.
Fast forward four years to the fall of 2016 after mountains of paperwork, legal documents, background checks, and more, we officially received a referral for a 1 year old boy who had been abandoned on the street from a month old. From that point on we have been continually filling out paperwork, updating documents, and praying our son would soon be home with us.
Things have not been easy. The government of Ethiopia has put an end to international adoptions. Because we were already in the process, we are able to continue and finish our case, but the process has been bogged down in much government bureaucracy. In addition, due to the cancellation of international adoptions as well as other factors, our American adoption agency was forced to close its doors leaving us scrambling to find a replacement agency that would take our case.
Because of these difficult circumstances and setbacks, our adoption expenses have ballooned to roughly $40,000. God has blessed us immensely through this process, but there are still some needs to be met.
If you feel called to help us, these generous funds will go towards travel expenses and agency fees for this adoption. We are currently in the last phases of the process and are simply waiting for government approval from Ethiopia to come take custody of our son and subsequently bring him home. Our hope and prayer is that he will be home by Christmas, but we are trusting in God's timing through all of this.
