Help Brie & Aiva Live Together
Donation protected
Hello! Thank you so so much to everyone who’s donated in the past and we're so sorry to ask for help again, but we’re really hoping this is the last time we’ll ever need to!
Aiva, my wife, and I have been trying to live together since my visa expired and I had to leave the UK at the end of January. Neither of us made enough yearly income to apply for the fiancée visa in either of our countries, so we had to marry in Canada, where anyone who legally enters the country and meets the usual marriage requirements in the country can marry, without a specific fiancé(e) visa. We thought this would allow us to apply for the UK spousal visa, which, on the official gov.uk website, says the minimum financial income requirement can be the combined income of both partners, and we definitely make over the minimum combined. However, that only applies if the UK partners spouse is from the EU or commonwealth, so as an American, my income doesn’t count.
The only way we’ve found that will allow us to live together in the near future is for Aiva to move to Ireland (as free movement is set to remain between the UK and Ireland even after Brexit) and for me to apply for the Working Holiday visa, which allows American students and recent graduates to work in Ireland for up to a year. UPDATE: The visa has been approved and my flight is booked for mid-October!!!!! :')
We thought we’d only just be able to meet the financial requirements for my visa with some help from Aiva’s family lending us what we need, but Dublin has an ongoing housing crisis and rent for a room will likely be €1,000 and a €1,000 deposit. Which we hadn’t really considered and which is going to be very hard to pull together.
If you’re able to, we would really really appreciate it if you could spare a few pounds/dollars! Sharing this would also be greatly appreciated! I can do small drawings/digital illustrations for anyone who donates £20 or more! Just let me know if you'd want me to make anything!!
