Braiden was excepted into NYLF Pathways to STEM it is a camp being held at Agnes Scott College In Atlanta Ga July 16-20th 2018. He really wants to go and he deserves to go but it cost $1800 not counting hotel stay. He wrote an essay and got a Scholarship for $300 but we need at least $200 more by March 2nd to hold his spot then we need the rest so he can go. Braiden has kept straight A's this whole year and strives to do his best. He loves school, loves to learn and he wants to be a Zoologist when he grows up. I am so proud of him and wish I could just pay for the camp but I cannot so I am appealing to all of you our friends and family for help. What I Want to be When I Grow Up

My name is Braiden Cochran and I am ten years old. When I grow up I want to be a zoologist, because I love animals. I want to help protect them and preserve their way of life. My two favorite animals are the red panda, which is an endangered species, and the penguin.
The red panda is also known as the lesser panda. They also share the giant panda's rainy, high-altitude forest habitat, but they have a wider range. Red pandas live in the mountains of Nepal and in central China. These animals spend most of their lives in trees and even sleep in them. I love how they are tiny but still part of the panda bear family. The reason the red pandas are endangered is because humans are destroying their native habitats, and people are hunting them for their furs. Red pandas require bamboo for food and forests for sleeping and hiding places. Unfortunately, many of the forests in the eastern Himalayan Mountains, where the red panda lives, are being cut down and cleared for agriculture and development. I want to help protect them and get them off the endangered species list. I think I can do this by helping build and maintain forest for them to live in. I can also grow bamboo for them to eat and climb on.
My second favorite are the penguins because I really love how they care for each other. Penguins are also super cute because it looks like they are wearing a tuxedo, and they waddle around on their little webbed feet. I really like how the daddy emperor penguin sits on the eggs so the Mommy penguin can go hunt and eat so she is prepared to care for the chick once it hatches. Penguins are also really great swimmers and I think it would be really awesome to slide on my belly in the ice and snow.
So you might be wondering, “What exactly is a zoologist?” Well, a zoologist studies animals and their interactions with ecosystems. They study their physical characteristics, diets, behaviors, and the impacts humans have on them. They study all kinds of animals, both in their natural habitats and in captivity in zoos and aquariums. They may specialize in studying a particular animal or animal group. The most important things I can accomplish by being a zoologist is to help protect all animals from getting on the endangered species list, to work hard to continue to protect the endangered species from becoming extinct, and hopefully help get many species off the endangered list. These are all the reasons I want to be a zoologist.
