Brad's Road to Recovery

Donation protected
On August 26th around 9:30 p.m. Brad was in a horrific accident on Highway 16 near Fraser Lake, BC.  The rental vehicle Brad was driving ran head on into a moose that ended up going through the windshield and causing Brad to crash violently into the ditch.  Luckily Brad was found nearly immediately and was airlifted from Prince George to Vancouver General Hospital the following day.  Brad spent his first week fighting for his life in ICU and was diagnosed with a severe brain injury which included numerous bleeds and an extremely swollen and bruised brain.  Brad also had at least 20 fractures in his face and amazingly did not have any other bodily injuries.

Almost 3 weeks later, Brad has miraculously regained consciousness and we are forever indebted to the doctors, nurses, and first responders who worked around the clock to save Brad’s life--Praise God! All brain injuries are unique and it is unknown what the short term and long term impacts are going to be, but it is certain that there is a very long road ahead to recover from this life-changing accident.  Once Brad is well enough to leave the hospital, he will become an inpatient at G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre in Vancouver. Rehab will include physical, cognitive, psychosocial supports and potentially occupational therapy to give Brad the best chance of getting back to a normal life.  Originally the doctors warned us that Brad may never recover, but with his rapid progress they are optimistic that he may be able to return home within six months.  From what we have come to understand, recovery from brain injuries typically has long term impacts such as fatigue, headaches, and other neurological symptoms that last long after the physical scars have healed.  We will continue to do everything we can to ensure Brad has the absolute best care on his ‘Road to Recovery’.

Currently, his mother Trudy and his partner Carla are with him in Vancouver and have been with him since day one.  We have also had many family members, friends, and his children who have visited and supported us over these last few weeks.   As you can imagine there are always unexpected expenses in situations like this. Many of you have asked what more you can do to help.  Participating in this Go Fund Me is one way you can support our family.

Money from this fundraiser will go towards:

~ Urgent legal costs that are required before a lawyer can be
        retained.
~ Supporting any medical and disability costs not covered by
        insurance.
~ Supporting Brad's ongoing responsibilities as a father and income
earner while he is unable to work.
~ Supporting family, children, and loved ones to be with Brad in
Vancouver - travel, accommodations, and additional expenses of
being in the city such as transit, taxis, and food.

Please continue to pray for Brad.  We could not have gotten through the last few weeks without the ongoing spiritual, emotional, and financial support during this time.  We feel so blessed to have such a community of love surrounding us.  We all await the day Brad can return home and be with his family, children and loved ones and begin rebuilding our lives together.
