Living Expenses for Mom

Hello friends. It’s that time of year again.
My birthday looms on the horizon like the bloated ghost of some great, wicked bird that exists solely to remind me of my perpetual march toward the reaper’s thirsty blade.
I hate my birthday. It’s the worst.

My mom is pretty great though, and she needs some help.
Instead of asking you to donate to some random charity, I’m setting up a fund to help her out with living expenses, and home repairs.

She is on permanent disability after years of health problems. She suffers from Crohn’s, multiple spinal injuries, and most recently a brain aneurysm that had to be clipped. The resulting surgery caused a stroke that went undetected initially and left her partially aphasiac. She’s made amazing progress, but due to the totality of her health issues, she is unable to work a regular job.

She is dependent on social security, and disability payments. Because of this, she sometimes struggles to make ends meet.

She’s also the strongest person I know.

As a left leaning lesbian in deep maga country, I can’t imagine the amount of horrible treatment she has been subjected to over the years.

As a teenager just starting to figure out my own sense of social and political identity seeing her hospice work with HIV patients, LGBTQ advocacy, and deep sense of social justice helped make me a kinder, more compassionate person.

I know that these are scary, uncertain times.
