Did you know?

*Every 2 minutes, around the world, 60 women die giving birth.

*In the United States, women of color are up to 3 times more likely to have a child die before his or her first birthday.

*This is not the way it has to be.

A Solution:

In 1988, Kathryn Hall-Trujillo had the idea that we could decrease the number of infant and mother deaths by pairing community women with expecting mothers for emotional, educational, and advocacy support. These community volunteers were called "Sisterfriends," and the Birthing Project grassroots community health-focused model was born.

25 Years later...

Birthing Project (BP) USA continues to work to ensure that mothers have the support and resources they need to ensure safe and healthy pregnancies. There are more than 100 birthing projects throughout the United States and in seven other countries; and over 13, 000 babies have been born into birthing projects around the world.

In 2010, BPUSA took on the challenge that over 1 million mothers in under resourced settings face: lack of sterile birth supplies at the time of birth. In a growing number of countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Ethiopia, Malawi, Honduras and Haiti, BPUSA has partnered with AYZH to provide low cost eco-friendly safe birth kits to international birthing projects and help ensure mothers survive childbirth and live to raise their babies.

The Results:

The results are well-documented: BPUSA babies are born healthier than those born outside of BPUSA projects. BPUSA babies are less likely to be born early (preterm) and more likely to born at a healthy weight.

BPUSA has sponsored and delivered more than 6,000 safe birth kits to women around the world.

With the support of people like you, Birthing Project USA believes in and works to create a world where all mothers are supported to have healthy pregnancies, and all babies are born healthy and supported to live their very best lives.

Fundraising Goal: $15,000

The mothers of the BPUSA need your help!

We are anticipating a budgetary shortfall for 2013. Through individual donors, BPUSA needs to raise $15,000 to be able to continue to provide crucial services to the communities we support.

BPUSA is the umbrella organization that provides support, training, and technical assistance to replicate and sustain local birthing projects in the United States and around the world. As we celebrate the 25th year of the Sisterfriend tradition, we have reached an intersection in the development of this critical organization. Our communities need BPUSA.

We invite you to give to support the sustainability of a BPUSA and to help ensure that every mother is able to see her child's first birthday.

Can we count on you to give for the health of moms and babies today?
