The Belize Wildlife & Referral Clinic (BWRC), founded in 2011, provides free medical care and rehabilitation for imperiled wildlife as the only veterinary clinic for wildlife in the country of Belize.
Our patients are either injured, often hit by cars or displaced, orphaned or confiscated from the illegal pet trade. BWRC also supports approved rehab centers nationwide with free care. Our objective is to assist non-lethal human wildlife conflict resolution, rescue and rehabilitate wildlife to return to the wild and to support conservation and animal welfare. BWRC supports the Government of Belize in executing its mandate relating to wildlife conservation with in field assistance, consulting and training. Our vision is "Sustainable development and conservation through colaboration".
In 2013 BWRC treated 157 wildlife patients and provided $12.300 worth of in-kind services to the Wildlife Program of Belize and government approved conservation projects. BWRC responded to patients and emergencies in the field nationwide about 30 times and contributed the scarlet macaw monitoring efforts in Chiquiubul. Our numbers continue to increase. In the past BWRC has supported these in-kind services through grants, donations, volunteers, domestic animal services and educational services in academic tourism which we continue to develop.
While BWRC now employs 2 Belizean graduates full-time and houses and feeds 2 international professional volunteers (veterinarians), the Founder and Director continues to provide all services without salary.
Help the Founder and Director with a donation towards the cost of free medical care for imperilled wildlife.
