Himalayan Health Exchange

Dear family and friends,

This message is out of character for me as I never send group messages, forward mass emails (except when my hotmail account is hacked!), or reach out at a time of need. I am currently in my last year of medical school preparing for applications for residency. The journey I have taken has been the most difficult and exciting experience so far in my young life. There have been tons of sacrifices, selling all but what I could fit into a few suitcases, journeying to a 3rd world country, and living without A/C, hot water, or a fridge for 16 months are just a few examples. Following the experience of growing hippy hair and dwelling with the Rastafarians in the island of Dominica, my studies have taken me to Ft. Lauderdale FL, Shreveport LA, Cape Cod MA, York PA, and currently to Chicago IL. Here in Chicago I live with another student friend and Gideon, my trusty Jack Russell terrier in a <300 sq ft studio. My voyage so far has indeed been an unpredictable yet exciting journey and is about to become even more adventurous.
My next rotation/medical mission is to the remote villages in the Himalayan mountain range with a group called the Himalayan Health Exchange (www.himalayanhealth.com). We will be providing medical care to several small villages who only rarely receive medical care due to difficulty in reaching the villages. We will be traveling with a group of attending physicians, residents, dentists, medical students, and nurses in order to provide as much medical treatment possible. This experience is extremely important to me as I am interested in rural emergency medicine, a field that requires a broad knowledge base, and quick decision making all while serving a diversity of illness's and ethnicity's. The purpose of my message is a request for financial assistance to fund this excursion. I know this trip will be a priceless addition to my education, but unfortunately the outdoor stores, airlines, hotels, and travel guides and I have a different understanding of "priceless". The total trip and supplies will cost ~5000$. In pursuing this experience I am taking a financial risk, as I will need similar funds later this year for applications, plane tickets, and hotels during residency interview season. Although it is a potentially risky endeavor, I know that I would harbor great regret if I didn't take advantage of this opportunity. Any assistance that you could provide personally, through an employer, your own company, or from family and friends would be truly immeasurable. The best way to donate would be by directly depositing into my Wells Fargo account (Lance Adams, Acc. # xxxx-xx8-710) or by using my "Go Fund Me" account (8% is deducted for fees).
Composing this message took swallowing a lot of pride, and I pray that none are offended by my efforts to illicit help. Even if you are not able to donate financially, your prayers on my behalf for this crucial upcoming year while I compete for an extremely competitive residency would be more valuable then any monetary contributions. I sincerely hope that this message finds each of you in good health and even happier spirits and hope to hear about what is new in each of your lives as well. Thanks again for your friendship and love, I pray our paths meet again soon.

Gratefully,
