Hi!
My name is Hannah Namnoum and I’m a Sophomore at Tisch School of the Arts at NYU studying Film and Television. I’m currently about to begin production on my Intermediate Narrative film - an 8-minute short film about a young boy who finds solace in a small bird after his mother’s death. Not only is this my biggest production yet - it’s my most ambitious! And I need your help to see it through.
Boy with Bird centers around Lee, a shy boy who has trouble connecting to those around him. When he finds a small bird after his mother’s funeral, he is able to form a bond with something other than his mother for the first time. But after the bird forces Lee deeper and deeper into isolation, he must make a choice about those who are truly closest to him.
I’ve been working on this script for a while, and it means a lot to me as a story about depression, inner isolation, and grief. I’ve been wanting to bring this film to life for a long time in order to shine a light on these topics and illustrate how they can reach beyond the realm of adulthood and affect children too - something I don’t think has been given enough attention in our media today.
To do this story justice, I am committed to bringing a unique visual style to the film that I think will tell this story in a visually compelling yet theme-driven way. I plan to have a specific wardrobe aesthetic as well as an animated and clay made bird, combining fantasy and reality in order to illuminate how depression and grief can affect children. I plan on also having a specific set aesthetic, and want to make sure the location we film at is apt, both visually and thematically. While ambitious, I am fully confident in myself bringing this vision to light, having won three awards for my films since I have arrived at Tisch as a transfer student this past June. In order to pull it off, however, I need the funds to achieve my vision.
While NYU provides me with equipment to film, I need additional funds to pay for essentials like food and transportation as well as location, wardrobe, equipment and set design. Your support, whether it be through a donation or sharing this campaign to friends and family, will be extremely helpful.
