Boyces' Living with Cancer Fund

Al and Cindy Boyce are people who regularly live out I John 3:18, where the Apostle John instructs us to love not just with our words, but letting that love turn into actions.  Through the years they have shared the love and light of Jesus through visiting those in prison, befriending and caring for the homeless, feeding the poor, ministering to the sick and elderly etc, etc, etc .  They live their lives in a posture that continuously asks," Who has the Lord put in my path, how can I love them and what tangible needs can I meet?"

In addition to serving those outside of their home, Al and Cindy have the wonderful opportunity to be parents to an amazing special needs son, Parks, who is now in his twenties.  Cindy's full time job these last 20 + years has been as primary caregiver to Parks who is filled with joy, but requires regular assistance to do the basic things --ie dressing, bathing, and eating.

Also, through years of trial and error, and some Divine intervention, Cindy has discovered a very stringent diet regimen that allows Parks to live his best life possible, but also requires countless hours planning, shopping, meal prepping, and cooking.

It is into this already challenging, albeit rewarding, home life that cancer first made its appearance in Al in 2016 when he was diagnosed with tumors in several different parts of his body, remarkably all individually occurring -- meaning not metastasized from one location to another.  Al went through an extensive operation to remove the cancer.  Despite unforeseen complications in that surgery, as well as a later unrelated surgery, through God's healing grace, Al's steely determination, and the support of his family and friends, Al has been able to resume most of his normal activities and enjoy these past two years with Cindy, Parks and Cindy's sons (Al's stepsons) Tim and Joe Bowman.

Last month, tests revealed that a new agressive, cancer, "liver bile duct” had taken a firm hold in Al.  Whereas we know that our God specializes in the impossible, the doctors are calling this inoperable and incurable by their methods. In addition to the liver bile duct cancer, Al also has been diagnosed with prostate cancer which is the lesser of the two evils, cancer wise, but the ravaging effects of the liver bile duct cancer, have led to the decision to not move forward with treatment for either.  In light of all of this, Al has requested palliative care.

As his condition has rendered him unable to work since July 13, Al has used up 20 hours of sick time and has 28 days of vacation. Once the vacation is gone, Al will need to wait another 42 days for long term disability benefits to start. During that time, various benefits including medical insurance for the family, will need to be paid out of pocket to keep all the policies in effect.

Over the past month, Al has had numerous tests, scans, procedures, appointments with his regular physician and specialists, some of which will be covered by insurance, others only partially so-- and some potentially not at all.

In light of those factors, unknown potential medical costs ahead, and a chorus of people who are asking how they can help, a couple of us-- friends of Al and Cindy-- felt led to start this campaign, in spite of the fact that it is probably the last thing they would ever ask for, or do, for themselves. Only God knows what is to come in the days ahead, but I believe He has given us the privilege of coming alongside this dear family to hopefully ease, at least one burden, as they walk through one of the most difficult seasons of their lives.

Please give, share and pray as you feel led
