My Botancial Bursary

I'm a seasoned internet professional with the curved spine, poor eyesight and shortened attention span to prove it. I love what I do, but you know what I love more? The possibility of living past age 65. With this in mind, I've decided to try something new in life... Something far away from polyester, computer chairs and a whole lot closer to living things. No disrespect toward my current co-workers intended.

Over the last couple of years, I've been experimenting with selling wildcrafted confections at farmers markets, teaching workshops and working with wild foods. It's been wonderful. It's also been challenging. Turns out trying to teach oneself to identify wild plants & herbs and how to make tasty things with them is pretty hard. And really, really time-consuming.

It's become clear that I need a little guidance. So, last fall I put down a deposit to enrol in an Herbal Apprenticeship Program figuring I had plenty of time to raise the rest of the tuition for March. This didn't happen. Between back-to-school for the teenager, preschool for the preschooler, a bank loan and the general cost of living—my back-to-school fund never materialized.

I have until March 16th to raise the tuition and cover my transportation costs. Rather than throw in the towel and find ANOTHER Facebook business page to manage, I've decided to pass around the hat. I'd very much like to combine my love of making lovely things from the woods with some solid herbal knowledge to make one-of-a-kind botanical food products.

I figure my web experience will definitely come in handy with this project and I have no intention of quitting my day job. Thankfully, I work with and for great people who are okay with me taking Mondays off to study. This is a first step for me and if all goes well I will continue my studies. Next stop, maybe a confectionary course? A how-to-attract-a-super-wealthy-wild-food-loving-patron workshop? I'm not exactlly sure yet. But I'm excited by the possibilities.

Right. All cards on the table. If you can spare a few bones to send me to school, that would be wonderful. If you can't, your moral support is equally appreciated.
