BORN OF WAR is a cinematic documentary spanning the first century of industrialised warfare and modern terrorism.

It includes some of the last ever first-hand accounts from the men of the British Expeditionary Force and the beaches of Dunkirk; from those who fought in the North African desert and at Monte Cassino and in the Normandy landings; and from those who survived the Long Marches as WWII neared its end, when many fellow POWs died at the hands of captors who had long since lost their moral compass.

In the modern era, it includes testimony from those who served in Northern Ireland – men now treated as courtroom fodder by a political class which has no comprehension of the debt it owes them, still less any concern for those it hounds. It concludes in Afghanistan.

Told in unsparing detail by successive generations of soldiers – mostly from a single battalion – it covers the full spectrum of warfare, from acts of self-sacrificial bravery to those of unspeakable barbarity. In doing so, it honours those who did not come home and lays bare the toll taken on those who did. Your support enables us to license archive footage, and to finance scene-of-battle filming and convincing small-scale re-enactment in a manner that can resonate with a younger generation which – as the late Frederick Forsyth, a BORN OF WAR supporter, observed – ‘now too readily takes freedom for granted’.

All those donating £20 or $25 (USD) or more are being listed in the credits. They are also invited to nominate someone in whose memory their donation is made (whether killed in action or on operations or who served and survived). Dates, rank, number and gallantry awards can be listed, as can details of regiment or, if from the R.N. or R.A.F., ship or squadron.

Donors may also nominate those who served in Allied forces at any point in the past century, from World War I through to Afghanistan, as well as those in Occupied Europe who were condemned to concentration and labour camps during World War II.
