Booomers Bamboo Bikes - United States Launch

My name is Andy Fitzpatrick and I am raising money to help launch Booomers Bamboo Bikes here in the United States. Booomers is social enterprise founded in 2014 and headquartered in rural Appah, Ghana. Their mission is to offer high quality yet affordable bamboo bicycles that are produced using a sustainable and eco-friendly manufacturing process. Since launching they have produced more than 2,500 frames and thousands of bamboo accessories, from bicycle baskets to children’s tricycles, mostly for customers in Germany.
My wife Linda and I discovered Booomers last August when visiting our son PJ, who is with the Peace Corps teaching high school science to rural Ghanaians in Apaah. Booomers employs 45 young people and gives them a range of skills and a steady income that can be extremely difficult to achieve in rural Ghana. They also indirectly support over 200 harvesters and farmers who cultivate the bamboo.
Bamboo frames provide an alternative choice for the growing numbers of consumers who care about the environmental and ethical credentials of their purchases. Booomers manual farming process needs no harmful fertilizers and is incomparable to the energy-intensive manufacturing of steel, aluminum or carbon fibre frames. They carefully select well-tended bamboo plants that have reached maturity for strength and reliability and build the frames using sisal and plant based resins. They own their our own farm and work with local farmers who grow bamboo around their crops, not only offering extra income but supporting environmentally-friendly agroforestry efforts.
The $15,000 in funds are required by February 28th 2019 and will be used specifically to launch Booomers this Spring where there is a major event in California for both the bicycle industry and its’ end consumers. Your contribution would mean the world to me and PJ, not to mention the many folks in the Booomers bicycle factory and surrounding bamboo farms. I have been volunteering my own time with Booomers since late September of 2018 to help prepare them for a U.S. launch, and it is my sincere hope that you can help them with your donation.
