Boonie Babies

This new GoFundMe is simply due to an update to the system, our mission is the same. Saipan, a beautiful island in the Pacific, is most renowned for its influence in WW2. Evidence of the battles here are everywhere, from the tanks and planes offshore to the memorials to all the lives lost scattered all over the island, but the most common and identifiable remnants of the war’s history are the boonie dogs. After the war, countless combat dogs that had been used to sniff out bombs and hiding Japanese were lost or left behind. Today the descendants of those heroic war dogs are known as boonie dogs, a mix between bloodhounds, Rottweilers, labradors, and German Shepards. They roam the island living off any scraps they can find and enduring the harsh rainstorms and blistering heat. Most are homeless, starving to death, and covered in mange, as Saipan is the only U.S. territory with no animal cruelty laws. There is not even a vet on-island! The amazing people here who run the shelter, Saipan Cares for Animals, try their best to take in as many boonie dogs as they can and care for them around the clock but without sufficient funding and volunteers the sheer number of dogs in need can be overwhelming. Things have been especially difficult since our island was hit by Super Typhoon Yutu who’s 200 mile per hour winds destroyed nearly everything in its path and displaced many animals. Our mission is to foster and adopt out as many of these boonie babies as possible, but we can’t do it alone. Donations go towards the food, medical care, and adoption efforts of stray and rescued boonie dogs. Any donation is a step closer to helping one boonie dog at a time find its forever home. Thank you!
