Darius' medical transportation cost

On August 6, 2017 the family of Darius H. Wilcox received a tragic phone call indicating that he had arrived at a local Detroit-area hospital non-responsive. After getting this horrific news in Texas, his parents Terry Sr. & Valerie Wilcox instantly booked flights to head back to Detroit, Michigan. For hours they toiled with the agony of not knowing what happened to their healthy 26 year-old son. Once they arrived and spoke with the doctors, Terry Sr. & Valerie were informed that Darius had went into spontaneous cardiac arrest. Their strong, energetic and youthful son’s heart had failed him. With the help of GOD and the amazing efforts of the hospital staff, Darius was revived. Sadly, this devastating occurrence has caused him to suffer from severe brain damage and he is presently in a coma. Over the past six weeks, "Boomer" (as so many close friends and relatives refer to him) has shown steady progress despite the diagnosis from the doctors. He is currently raising his arms and legs independently as well as making several facial expressions when being spoken to by loved ones. Boomer is the epitome of a fighter and his co-workers at General Motors, former teammates, little league players, family and friends can all attest to this magical characteristic.

This ordeal has put great strain on the family. Boomer’s parents have sacrificed a tremendous deal to be there for him. Terry Sr. & Valerie are right at his bed side every day to ensure that he makes the proper strides in his rehabilitation. Currently his parents have guardianship and conservatorship over his health/business matters, however they live in Texas. This is a huge and costly obstacle that Terry Sr. & Valerie are up against. At this stage, Darius is moving closer to the long-term care phase. As far as rehabilitation and logistics, it is favorable for Boomer to be transported to Texas where his family can effectively support him and oversee his care in this next chapter. In order to accomplish this task, he needs to be air lifted from Michigan to Dallas, Texas. There are two pieces to complete this move; pay for fuel and the other latter is getting a helicopter. Fortunately, the helicopter is acquired but the major hurdle now is paying for fuel.

This hefty expense will cost the family approximately $13,000. As of now, the Wilcox family is reaching out to relatives and friends for help on this affair. Although it is a very troubling time, the encouragement and prayers have gotten us through a lot of the pain.

The Wilcox family would like to thank you all for the love, support and donations.

God Bless,
