Book Drive for Ruk'u'x Ulew Women's Collective

Ruk'u'x Ulew (Heart of the Earth) women's cacao collective is based in San Marcos la Laguna, on the banks of Lake Atitlán, Guatemala.

This is a fundraiser to get books for the women's collective, based on their request to provide education to the Kaqchikel Mayan women who work in the collective.

100% of funds raised will go to the collective in the form of buying books, a first aid kit, and possibly other materials for their cacao workshop in San Marcos.

Depending on the amount of donations and how many books are able to be purchased, some of the funds might go toward the cost of checking luggage on the plane.

I am traveling to Guatemala in mid-March and will take the books in my suitcase. I plan to buy the first aid kit once I arrive in Guatemala.

This fundraiser is organized on behalf of Soul Lift Cacao. Ruk'u'x Ulew is our longest-running source partner.

The collective is owned by Cecilia Mendoza Chiyal, a Mayan woman, shown standing in the photo above.

They select the best beans grown at a few native family farms in Alta Verapaz, and roast the beans over a wood fire.

The women hand-peel the beans in groups, much like the community affair it has been throughout history. They pour intentions into it to be a "soul medicine" for the world.
