I am 67 years old and I've had Parkinsons for the last ten years. Two years ago I had brain surgery at NYU Langone Hospital in New York City. They call the surgery Deep Brain Stimilation or DBS. It was nothing short of a miracle. I no longer need a cane to walk, I don't get lost in my neighborhood, my tremors (the most visible sign of PD) have largely disappeared,and I no longer hallucinate when driving at night. Most important of all I've got my need and the will to write books again. I can touch type again too!
Prior to the onset of PS I have written two adventure books, DEEP DESCENT, DARK DESCENT, and five others that are in the true crime genre. My publishers have been Simon & Shuster, McGraw-Hill, and St. Martin's, some of the giants in the insustry All the books can be found on Amazon or by google. They are still in print.
At first i planned to get a part time job to pay for my writing sjourns but prejudice against the handicapped is dificult to overcome. I can see potential employers' faces drop when I walk in the door and introduce my self. My search for parttime work has been frustrating and discouraging but I haven't given up. I love writing. It has giving me the will to forge ahead and gived meaning in my life
The amount I looking for is $5000. That amount will let me purchase a reliable vehicle, registrate it, and insure it. A car will allow me to travel far and wide to interview principals in my latest true crime book.
The stipend will also allow me to return to the swimming pool where I can resume my efforts to keep in good shape. Swimming is the only exercise that really helps me in fighting this dibiltating desease. Most neurogists recognise this and hardily recommend it.
