PLEASE FORWARD THIS POST TO EVERYONE THAT YOU KNOW.  I REALLY APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT.  THANK YOU IN ADVANCE.

Greetings everyone, It is a pleasure sharing this post with you.  My name is Karen LeDee-Lewis and I am a Family Nurse Practitioner.  I am a mother of three and a grandmother of 10.  I have worked very hard and am pleased to say that I overcame many challenges in life.  I am writing a book that offers guidance to health care providers when caring for Black patients with the intent for improved health outcomes and the eradication of heath disparities.
I have participated as a guest panelist were topics have covered:  Healing Our City Through Unity & Humility, Improving Health Outcomes for Black patients, Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion issues, and I also teach a monthly virtual Wellness Class.  I want better heath outcomes for Black Patients.
Our patients with Sickle Cell Disease, Hypertension, Diabetes and our Black infants are dying at increased rates and far to soon and far too young.  I’m taking on this book writing journey with an aim to offer suggestions to health care providers but also suggestions for the empowerment of patients when they seek care.
I have worked with underserved populations for many years.
At one point in my career I was given an opportunity to serve the very community that I grew up in.  An impoverished area that continues to have limited access to resources and health care.  However, there are organizations that are working very hard to rectify certain issues.  I would like to commend The Black Infant Health Program, The Equal Opportunity Commission, West  Fresno Family Resource Center, The Black Nurses Associations, and many other organizations all over the world.  I am a supporter of The United Negro College Fund/HBCU’s, and two of my favorite organizations that assist children:  Valley Children's Healthcare and Saint Jude’s Hospital for Children.  I am always happy to give back were I am able.
I have worked in Internal Medicine and Women’s Health caring for Pregnant Black Mothers who face various challenges where health disparities are concerned.  The Black maternal mortality rate is 2.5x higher than the rate of White women.   There are so many other issues that my book aims to bring to the forefront for all health care providers.  Again, my goal is share with providers how they can enhance their practice by better caring for and considering the needs of the Black patient and community.
It is my hope that this book can be utilized as a part of educational curriculums for Physicians, Office Staff, Medical Students, Social Workers, Nurses,  Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, and everyone else.  My book may also be used as a conversation starter where Cultural-Sensitivity is concerned.  Some of the topics include:  Racism at appointments, Food Deserts,  Red-Lining, The Weathering Effect, The Wealth- Gap, Micro-Aggressions, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and other topics will be compiled as a resource for everyone.
With the murders, social unrest, racism, and pure disregard for mankind, I have started writing the book and have several sections completed.  I will obtain a Literary Agent,  Illustrator, Editor, and I am choosing to go thru a Publishing House because of the nature of the book and the far reaching audiences I hope to reach.
In advance, I humbly and graciously, thank you for your support as I pursue this endeavor.   The funds are needed as soon as you are able to donate.   My requested goal provides me time to write, publish, and distribute the book, even if I have to distribute the book myself.  No amount is too little.
For my first update I am proud to say that I have designed the cover and verbally secured an illustrator whose work is beautiful.   I will offer updates as I write and continue to structure the details of the book.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS POST TO EVERYONE THAT YOU KNOW.  I REALLY APPRECIATE THE ASSISTANCE WITH THIS ENDEAVOR.

* Research has shown that many dreams go unrealized because we do not ask for assistance, so I am humbly asking,  Please,  if you comment, only kind and supportive remark will be welcomed.

Thank you, Karen A. LeDee-Lewis, MSN, RN, FNP-C.
