Bonny's Wheelchair-accessible Van

Donation protected
In December of 2015, we hosted what I thought would be the last Martin family Christmas party that Bonny was able to attend. Her heath had been degenerating. She was struggling to get in and out of the car. After that Christmas, bad went to worse, and Bonny didn't leave the house except by medical transport to the hospital for a very, very long time. The swelling in her legs had gotten so bad that she could no longer walk. She couldn't put her feet up without cutting off her breathing due to her collapsed left side of the diaphram. Her pressure sores were so bad that her healthcare professionals were warning us that they may never heal and infection was likely to be the end of her. It was like that for about a year and a half. She never left her bedroom except to venture to the living room when family was visiting, and even then, sometimes she didn't make it out.

Enter Medicaid and her custom-built wheelchair.

This was a COMPLETE game-changer. The electric wheelchair was able to keep her in a sitting position so she could breath while still getting her legs above her heart. Her swelling started to dramatically decrease. Her pressure sores started to heal. I thought mom was lost. Turned out, she only needed the right chair.

Not only can mom now go into the living room whenever she wants, she can go to the kitchen, and the front room, and OUTSIDE!!!! She wheels around in that chair with a liberated smile on her face. Bonny's dream now: go some OTHER places too. What it would take is a van that her wheelchair can get into. And we found one - a good one. And they only want $5500 for it.

George and Bonny are on a fixed income that doesn't even cover half of their current monthly expenses. They cannot consider spending money on a van, so we're covertly seeing if we can drum up the support to get it for them. If we can raise $5500, the van will be paid for and Bonny will be able to go WHERE EVER SHE WANTS - even to visit her grandchildren in their new home in Roseburg even!!!! If we raise more, the additional amount would go to helping maintain the van or cover other living expenses they are having a hard time funding.

If you would be able to make any size donation to Bonny's Van fund, we would be so grateful. Every $5 would make a substantial difference in meeting a goal that's this affordable. Thank you for your love and prayers for George and Bonny!
