Bohdan Losanowych's Funeral Expenses

Donation protected
On November 4, 2020, my physically-disabled grandfather, Bohdan Losanowych (63), passed away at University of Penn Presbyterian Hospital after being hit by a car while walking home. After being hit by this young driver he suffered fractures to his pelvis, skull, and facial areas. This skull fracture then caused brain hemorrhaging. He was due to have surgery in order to install plates in his skull and reconstruct his face, but the team of doctors and surgeons ultimately canceled the surgery due to his heart stopping and needing to be revived. Shortly after he was revived his condition declined rapidly, with brain hemorrhaging and more heart issues. Much to our dismay the trauma team said there was nothing more that they could do, and he began to code. Doctors resuscitated him, resulting in cracked ribs, and gave him epinephrine, keeping him in a constant heart attack for the sole purpose of him remaining alive. This epinephrine was the only thing keeping him alive. Thus, my dad was forced to make the decision between writing a DNR and allowing his father to pass painlessly, or not writing one with the hopes of recovery, but risking his father having to suffer through more unbearable pain. Ultimately, my pop-pop passed away before this decision could be made.

The accident and consequent death of my pop-pop was a shock to everyone who knew him, especially his family. As if things could not be worse enough for our family, his life insurance is not enough to cover funeral expenses. As a result, he has not been cremated yet, as we simply cannot afford it. We are heavily discouraged by this. My pop-pop was a wonderful man: a lover of nature and animals, as well as a lover of his family. In my times of grief I often find myself remembering the times when I would enter the room with my two younger siblings and see his eyes light up like stars in the night sky; of times when he would give my two pet cats treats in the hopes of making them happy. In my opinion, I believe that my pop-pop deserves the world; or, at least, a proper send-off. However, in our current situation, what with personal finances as well as his life insurance policy not giving us much to work with, we are unable to even cremate him at this time. With this in mind, I and the rest of my family are reaching out to you in the hopes of being able to fulfil my pop-pop’s final wishes. Any donation or share will be greatly appreciated by the entirety of my family, and all donations will be used for his cremation as well as a church service to memorialize the lasting impact he has had on our lives.
