Hi, I'm Rebecca, host of the Body Kindness podcast, in its fourth season.
The podcast is FREE for everyone. Listeners are working on breaking free from body shame, dieting, and eating disorders, helping their kids grow up with body kindness (while still evolving themselves), setting boundaries with doctors, families and friends, and pretty much doing everything they can to resist judgment and shame around health, weight, and shape.
Throughout the 100+ episodes, I have received some of the most heartwarming messages from listeners... everything from "I finally got the courage to stop dieting and be good to myself"
to "I had my first orgasm at 45!"
I'm really proud of the show's evolution, tackling systemic issues that influence our well-being, such as race with bestselling author Ijeoma Oluo, and racial disparities in pregnancy and postpartum with Miriam Zoila Perez "the radical doula".
After more than three years at this, I've learned that the time and money costs are significant and most people really don't know what it takes to podcast consistently.
At the encouragement of a friend, I'm posting this request for contributions to help keep Body Kindness up for 2019. (And seriously, I don't care if it's $5... it matters to me!)What It Takes to Run the Body Kindness Podcast
Each episode takes at least 4 hours of my time (research topics, prepare for and conduct interviews, communicate with production team, listen to rough cut and provide edits, listen to final cut, write the show notes, and share on social media.)
In addition, I have out of pocket costs that include: hardware, software, producer, editing team, co-host stipend (I pay Bernie for his episodes, though he is worth 10Xs what he gets.) I have estimated that I spend $600-800 a month out of pocket on actual expenses to keep it running. If I put out fewer shows, most of my expenses remain because they are flat, but I save a little on hourly rate production costs.
It's critical to me to continue providing FREE content in the podcast. While it's not a replacement for in-person support, I've heard from helping professionals and clients that the shows are significantly improving well-being and helping people move away from dieting practices and poor body image. One listener e-mailed me to say it's her "weekly morning coffee date with Rebecca". I love that.
I estimate based on downloads and social media reach the Body Kindness podcast is reaching 80K+ people a month! (That's a big impact... and I plan to keep it growing!)Supporting Do-Gooders, Solopreneurs, and People With a Purpose
I prefer to avoid typical "paid ads". Frankly, the systems in place favor of big brands, not the podcaster. And do we really need another marketing ad?
I'd rather give space to "people with a purpose" -- people who are doing GREAT things and could use a boost spreading the word through the podcast and all the social media that comes with it.
One example is my neighbor. Her daughter is friends with mine. We learned that she had a sister with a terminal illness. Now, the mom has a non-profit in her daughter's name that helps other families. I'd rather support her cause through the show than advertising that doesn't really mean anything to me.
So, I'm hoping to get a boost of funding through the power of community -- and I'm grateful to everyone who can share this message or donate themselves. How You Can Help
If you are a listener or like my work, give anything you can to my Body Kindness podcast cause. It all helps. How Can I Thank You?
I'd love to recognize you as a donor on the podcast page, an upcoming episode, and donate an ad space to a person with a purpose.
After you donate, shoot me an email about how I can help recognize your contribution. (Rebecca at Body Kindness Book dot com)
Thank you, again, for supporting this podcast. It's a passion project of mine. I love doing it. And I'd love even more to continue with an uplifted heart from your generosity.
