Bodi's Story.
On June 17th 2017 the Kessel family got a unexpected surprise. While visiting family in Edmonton Bodi made his arrival into the world at 33 weeks (7 weeks early)!! Weighing in at 4 pounds 14 ounces, this strong little guy is in for one heck of a fight. Bodi was born with a condition requiring him to have Duodenal Atresia Surgery. This means that Duodenum (which is the first part of the small intestine, just beyond the stomach) is closed off rather then being a tube. This stops food and fluid from passing the stomach into the intestines. His surgery went well and he was on his way to recovery, however 3 days later he had a set back. A nurse noticed his stomach was swollen and a x-ray was ordered. The x-ray showed he had air in his intestine, which required a second surgery to repair a leak in the intial surgery site. At that time the doctors also had to do a Duodenal Jejunostomy where they cut part of his stomach open and connect the intestine to the incision. Bodi is back on the road to recovery, however he remains on a ventalator and sedated until they can start to ween him off and start feeding him through a tube ( a minimum of 7-10 days). The family will have to stay in Edmonton for at least the next 2-3 weeks as he needs to tolerate feeding through the tube and can graduate to oral feedings. Mom and Bodi cannot return to Regina until he is able to feed on his own.
During this time, Dad and big sister Decklynn are traveling back and forth to Edmonton as much as possible to support mom and Bodi.
We are trying to raise funds to help support the Kessel family during this difficult time. We would like to help cover some unexpected medial costs and other expenses as they arise.
