In 2003, Bob began to experience a major health decline being diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy and emphysema. In 2004, he had a defibrillator implanted. As the emphysema advanced, Bob continued to have reoccurring bronchitis and pneumonia which led him to the ICU at Medina Hospital in 2009, where we weren't sure he was going to pull through!
In 2010 we entered the Cleveland Clinic Pulmonary Transplant Program. Through their great care and the use of medications, oxygen therapy and pulmonary rehabilitation therapy, Bob's heart and lung function improved. In 2011 he suffered from a bout of pneumonia, May 2012 he passed out at home. In August of 2012 he had a pulmonary embolism and was in the hospital for a total of 3 weeks, and continued for 10 days at a rehabilitation center. He gained strength and continued to attend the transplant testing at the Cleveland Clinic every 3 months.
Now in December, 2014, his heart appears stable but his emphysema is well advanced. Bob has end-stage emphysema. He will be placed on the list for a double lung transplant after such much needed dental work and a heart catheterization.
Bob has a wife, Karla, of 26 years and 2 boys, Ryan age 21 and Bobby, age 24.
We need funding to cover medical co-pays, insurance deductibles, expensive medications (especially when he is in the "donut hole"), and lodging for caregiver when he is in the hospital.
When Bob gets his second chance, he is looking forward to returning to his favorite activities such as fixing things around the house and "playing" in the garage. Just walking into church or a restaurant without oxygen, which seems simple, but that will be huge!!!
He wants to do the activities with his boys that he has not been able to do since 2004, 11 years!! Ryan was 11 and Bobby was 14 when their dad became ill. First thing on the list is GO FISHING!!!!
