Bob Utzig is the elected PA Constable in the 19th ward, serving Mt Washington, Beechview and Brookline for the last 20 years! In addition, he has also worked and assisted in Baldwin Twp, Whitehall, and Castle Shannon for the past 12 years. He has proudly served our city and our neighborhoods, helping to keep us safe! A true Pittsburgher (Yinzer) at heart – he was born and raised in Mt Washington and even still lives just a few blocks away from where he grew up. He loves his family and his sport teams, especially his “Stillers”, and likes to show it off by wearing his championship attire all year long! J
Last summer, he noticed a lump on his neck. The biopsy revealed the devastating news that it was cancerous, specifically metastatic squamous cell carcinoma. He decided to attack it full force with grit and perseverance! His treatment plan included surgery and extremely high dosages of chemo and radiation, including many overnight stays at the hospital to monitor. Through all this, he continued to work and stay positive while fighting through the side effects of his treatments. After all, in his line of work, no work means no pay. And with medical bills mounting up, taking time off because he was weak or nauseous wasn’t an option.
The treatment finished early 2017 with hopes of a clean PET scan in April. Unfortunately, the next scan revealed another mass and the biopsy in May confirmed our fears that a new cancerous tumor had formed, this time in his nasal cavity. A few weeks later, the news came of another on his optic nerve, nearly blinding him. The treatment this time around is more delicate, consisting of Immunotherapy and radiation that needs to be performed 2 times a day, followed by another surgery. All of these efforts have made it impossible to work.
Bobby needs our help. He has gone through this entire ordeal without asking for anything. True in his prideful ways, he won’t ask even now. But we will! "Team Bob Utzig" will ask on his behalf to help lessen the burden of not being able to work and of the exponentially growing medical bills – many of which, for one reason or another, insurance will not cover. Bob has given so much to his family and the communities he serves - now is the time to give back to him. Please consider donating – even a few dollars goes a long way!
