Bobo (protest gone wrong)

We all have continued to hear countless stories about protesters being assaulted, abused, and targeted by law enforcement officers with tear gas, “rubber” bullets, and beatings. Bomani Ray Barton’s story is one of the many frontline protesters fighting on behalf of the oppressed. That’s why we are raising money for Bomani Ray Barton, a 23 year-old musical artist and sound engineer from Austin Texas. He was out on the frontlines of the George Floyd protest in Austin on Saturday, May 30th, when he became a victim of law enforcement officers’ brutality; Officers whose duty it was to protect and serve. After backing up, per the officer’s instruction, Bomani was shot in the hip, arm, and face with so-called rubber bullets. The damage inflicted upon this young man, from these so-called "less than lethal" rubber bullets, sent Bomani to the hospital with extensive and debilitating injuries. The law enforcement officer never stopped to render any aid to Bomani and never arrested Bomani, although it was the officer’s duty to protect and serve Bomani.
Somehow the doctors were able to wire his jaw shut after a section of his mouth was ripped off, multiple teeth were knocked out and his jaw was terribly fractured. Bomani is facing multiple surgeries, other medical and dental treatments, and therapy in order to be made whole again. The initial life-saving emergency room visit alone has created a substantial debt.
We are hoping to raise 35k for Bomani’s surgeries, medications, dental implants, and the months or even years of physical and occupational therapy that he will absolutely require. One dental implant tooth alone may cost him between $6,000 to $10,000.
Thank you to everyone who has already donated and wished Bomani a speedy recovery! Please help us relieve Bomani’s financial distress and the strain that this assault has put on his family. Protesting is a constitutional right guaranteed to every American citizen and law enforcement officers have a duty to protect and serve American citizens. Bomani did not deserve to be mistreated and physically violated for exercising his rights as an American citizen. Together, we will create the change needed to ensure that all victims of law enforcement brutality, like Bomani, receive justice and once-and-for-all are actually protected and served by law enforcement.
Much love.
