Robert Shapiro Memorial Scholarship

Robert Shapiro, beloved husband, father of 6, and grandfather of 8 passed into the presence of the Lord on September 14, 2018 at the age of 61.

Bob was a wonderful father and husband with seemingly unlimited energy and an unquenchable thirst for God. When he wasn't devouring theological texts, biographies, and histories, he would engage in his deep love for woodworking, fixing whatever his children had recently broken in his house, finding whatever tools his children had recently lost, and planning trips that his children didn't properly appreciate.

His grandchildren were better than his children, a fact he enjoyed reminding his children frequently. He loved being a grandfather and doting on them, reading with them, spending every moment he could with them.

A love that came later in life was his love of hiking. Bob spent the last few years traveling the Appalachian Trail in his spare time, hiking hundreds of miles through Georgia and North Carolina. He acquired this love through his experience with Deerfoot Lodge. When his sons were young, Bob would drive them to Deerfoot Lodge, a Christian wilderness and hiking camp in upstate New York, where they would hike in the beautiful Adirondack region.

After the camp session was complete, there is an additional Father-Son weekend, a chance for fathers to go on the same hikes their sons had taken during the camp session and experience the beauty that surrounds them. It is an incredible special opportunity for fathers and sons to grow closer over a shared experience and it was one that Bob looked forward to every year.

This fund will establish a scholarship in Bob's name and provide opportunities for young boys to experience  the beauty of God's creation in a wilderness setting.

Though they've long outgrown the camp, Bob's sons cherish the memories of these trips with their Dad. It is his wish that this memorial fund can help other families enjoy God's creation as they raise the next generation of godly young men.
