Bob Alexander's Family Fundraiser

Bob Alexander’s Family Fundraiser

May 3rd, 2020 was the day our family’s lives changed forever. Our dad, Bob Alexander, was in a tragic dirt bike accident that resulted in him being paralyzed from the shoulders down.
After being air lifted to Vancouver General Hospital, he spent 7 days in the ICU before being transferred to the Spinal Step-down Unit. There, he was given a tracheostomy and put on a ventilator for respiratory support. We learned that our once incredibly active dad had a complete spinal cord injury from his second to fourth cervical vertebrae and that he would never walk or move his arms again. He is currently fighting to become strong to enough to be transferred to GF Strong, where he will undergo many months of physiotherapy.

Bob and Shiela moved to Qualicum Beach 26 years ago to raise their four daughters; Jennifer, Nicole, Leanne, and Lori. They are two of the hardest working, most supportive and involved parents four girls could ask for. When the accident first happened, none of us could truly comprehend how serious his injury was. When we found out that Bob would need respiratory support and 24-hour care for the rest of his life, we knew we needed to ask for help. Bob has been a plumber in the community for over 25 years. He put in long hours, often working 7 days a week to support us growing up, all while trying to plan for his and my mom's retirement. Their future looks very different now and we have a long road ahead of us as a family. Our goal is to start a fundraiser to help ease the financial burden and stress that our parents now face. They have worked so hard for us our whole lives, it would mean the world to us if we could help them in their time of need.

In addition to the extensive renovations needed to make their home electric wheelchair accessible, our parents will now have to pay out of pocket for the medical equipment that our dad will need at home. Initially, he will need a power chair outfitted with a ventilator, a mechanical lift and sling(s), an electric hospital bed and pressure relief mattress, bed-side ventilator, suction device, a commode/shower chair, as well as an accessible van with a lift. As time goes on Bob will likely need additional equipment as his health status and abilities change. 100% of the donations raised will go to covering the medical equipment costs.

From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you for reading our story and we humbly ask that you share this link with family and friends. Feel free to check back for updates about Bob and if at all possible, please donate to the #alexanderfamilyfundraiser

Thank you,

Jennifer, Nicole, Leanne, & Lori
