B&O 3301 Christmas Fundraiser

Railroad Restorations, Inc. , a New Jersey non-profit organization, is seeking to raise funds for the relocation and restoration of the former Baltimore and Ohio Railroad lounge observation car #3301. For our very first Christmas Holiday Fundraiser, we are seeking to raise $3,301.00 (or more - hopefully) in this fund drive!

 

This historic railcar served as the tail-car on the B&O's flagship passenger train, the Royal Blue, which ran between New York City (Jersey City) and Washington DC. from 1937 to 1958.  Built by the famed Pullman Company as a regular non-descript passenger coach, the car was rebuilt in-house by the B&O into a classic blunt-end observation car for first class passengers.

 

Retired in the early 1960's and sold into private ownership, the railcar was used as part of a restaurant for over 50 years. In 2020, the restaurant elected to replace the railcars with an improved facility which can meet today's modern building codes and improve the space to be in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

 

Working in conjunction with the Upper Dublin Township Historical Commission, the restaurant owner graciously donated the 3301 railcar to a new non-profit organization which was specifically set up to manage this unique project. Thanks to the generosity of a number of donors, funds have been secured to relocate the railcar from Fort Washington PA to Farmingdale NJ where the heavy repairs and restoration will occur. The railcar will be moved in Dec of 2021 or January 2022.

 

The proceeds from this particular fundraiser will be used towards certain annual administrative costs associated with ownership of the railcar. While our financial goal for this fundraiser is minor, the 3301 will require substantial sums of money, time, and labor in order to be restored to her former glory.
