Help Brooke and her family beat cancer

Donation protected
Just recently our beautiful 9 year old niece Brooke Marie Nelson, daughter of Jennifer Decker and granddaughter of Ruth Hardy was experiencing common cold symptoms. As it persisted, her mother took her to the doctor and they found a small growth in her sinus area.

They scheduled her for surgery 4 weeks after but when the day came the growth had grown too large to remove. They tested and tested this growth and finally found it to be cancerous.....What a blow to all of us!!! They immediately scheduled an appointment at Johns Hopkins Children Hospital in Baltimore, Md and all the nightmares began. Brooke was diagnosed with Rhabdomyosarcoma, a form of muscle cancer. She was admitted to Johns Hopkins on Tuesday July 15, 2014 which has become her and her mothers home since.

In one day they did PET scan, MRI, blood work, bone marrow biopsy, spinal tap (which all have come back with no further areas affected), and inserted a portal and feeding tube, over six hours of surgery!!!! She was supposed to start Chemotherapy the next day but in the morning she took a turn for the worst, her oxygen levels were very low so they also inserted a breathing tube because her airway was blocked, not from the growth but from all that she endured the day before. Because of these complications her stay in the hospital has been extended longer than we all had expected.

Brooke will need to make weekly trips to Johns Hopkins once they get her Chemotherapy started. This will be a huge burden on this single mother of 3 who has had to take a leave of absence from work and delay her college classes. It is already a hardship on the extended family trying to get to the hospital for moral support each day.

Brooke's road to recovery will be long, and the last thing any family wants to worry about is the financial impact. This fund will provide and defray parking, gas and food costs during her stay at the hospital as well as the future trips necessary for her treatment.

So far there has been an outpouring of generosity from family and friends, so this fund hopes to continue a celebration of that support and help bring peace of mind to her and her family through this time.

All donations will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts... Brooke's Family
